Behavioral Health

Blue Cross and Blue Shield of Louisiana (Louisiana Blue) has an in-house Medical Management team that handles all authorization, case and disease management processes for behavioral health services. This includes behavioral health services for commercial and Medicare members.

We require prior authorization for certain behavioral health services:

• Inpatient Hospital (including detox)
• Intensive Outpatient Program (IOP)
• Partial Hospitalization Program (PHP)
• Residential Treatment Center (RTC)
• Applied Behavior Analysis (ABA)

Providers can submit requests for behavioral health authorizations through the Louisiana Blue Authorizations application, available on iLinkBlue under the “authorizations” menu option.

Appeals on behavioral health services denied for medical necessity can be faxed to (225) 298-1837 OR mailed to Louisiana Blue at:
